So, who the heck is this Robert guy? And why is he so good?
I met Rob all the way back in high school – back when he was too shy to even speak to me! But Rob was smart and particularly good with numbers. I sat beside him in maths and would frequently glance over at his calculations and copy his answers.
Robert was born in a small town in Poland and, when he and I talked for the first time, he spoke with a strong accent and his English was broken. Back home, Rob had been a gaming addict. With little else to do where he lived, Rob took to gaming day and night, and, inevitably, practice made perfect. Eventually, Rob was so good at what he did that he was able to compete professionally in tournaments. After several big cash wins, Robert’s mother was keen to nurture his talents. And so, they moved to the UK in search of a better life.
However, as a consequence of increased outside commitments and less time to practice, Robert’s dreams of becoming a top gaming superstarbegan to fade. Rob became disillusioned with gaming and instead spent more time socialising and studying for this exams.
Following our A level results, Robert and I coincidentally enrolled at the same university. And that is where our friendship really flourished. No longer was he the shy kid in my maths class. Rob blossomed into the smart, outgoing man that I trusted more than anyone else in our circle of friends.
One afternoon in our second term, after burning through our student loans and near reaching the limit of our respective overdrafts, Rob and I were stumped as to how we would come up with enough beer money for a bar crawl that night. That was when Rob had the bright idea to place a couple of small bets on Esports tournaments. Not only did Rob know gaming better than anything else, he’d actually competed with several of the top players and knew their specific strategies!
||And low and behold, all bets won!
